SATURDAY, JULY 17, 2010 AMTRAK from Pittsburgh to Altoona • Railroader’s Museum • Lunch • Horseshoe Curve All aboard for adventure! Let’s ride the rails with Amtrak from Pittsburgh to Altoona; the city that became home to the Pennsylvania Railroad. Take a most beautiful ride through the Allegheny Mountains. Experience the challenge the Pennsylvania Railroad workers over-came through this rough terrain and the famous Horseshoe Curve, one of the world’s most incredible engineering feats. By 1945, the Pennsylvania Railroad’s facilities at Altoona had become the world’s largest rail shop complex. We will tour the Railroader’s Museum. Lunch is included at a local restaurant, followed by a visit to the Curve to see a few trains roll through. You have to get up early because we leave New Kensington at 6:00 AM, and will return about 7:00 PM.
