Sunday:
It is time to discover the wonders of the "Mitten
State".
Today you have your choice of the Henry
Ford
Museum or Greenfield Village. The Henry Ford Museum is the nation’s
largest indoor-outdoor history museum. In the words of Henry Ford "I am
collecting the history of our people as written into things their hands
made and used... when we are through, we shall have reproduced American
life as lived, and that, is the best way of preserving at least part
of our history and tradition." Greenfield
Village consists of over 100 buildings that were moved from their
original locations and arranged in a village setting. The village
includes buildings from the 17th century to the present. Dinner tonight
will be at a local restaurant. (D)
Monday:
This morning we depart for Mackinac. Our lunch will be at the Big
Bucks Brewery followed by a short tour.
This afternoon the ferry will take us to Mackinac Island. We will have
the rest of the evening to explore this amazing island where there are
no cars and time seems to have stood still. (B,L)
Tuesday:
After breakfast, we will tour the island by
horse-drawn carriage. Our guide will highlight
the
history of the island including the Governor’s Mansion, Fort Mackinaw,
Arch Rock, and Surrey Hill. We depart the island for Saint Ignace and
board our Soo Locks Dinner Cruise.
The
Soo Locks have been referred to as one of the great wonders of the
world and it is still the largest waterway traffic system on earth.
Your boat will travel along the international shoreline of the lower
harbor letting you experience all the sights, sounds, and excitement
of Michigan's oldest city, Sault Ste Marie. This Boat Tour is one of
Michigan's top attractions, (B, D)
Wednesday: Today we visit
Castle Farms. Developed in 1918 by Albert Loeb, vice-president of Sears
Roebuck the original purpose of the farm was to showcase farm equipment.
Since 1969, Castle Farms’ gardens have been used for rock concerts,
festivals and weddings. Tour the gardens and enjoy lunch before
departing for Black Star Farms Old Mission. This small winery, with its
hand-crafted approach to wine making, produces classic wines and fruit
brandies. Dinner tonight
will be at Zehnder’s of Frankenmuth. (B, L, D)
Thursday:
Before we leave the "Mitten State" with our fond
memories, we will have a guided tour of Frankenmuth and an opportunity to
visit Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland, home to over 50,000 gifts and
trims for all seasons. Bronner’s is considered to be the largest
Christmas store in America. (B)
