DAY 1: After our arrival in Washington DC, you will have time to enjoy lunch on your own.
We will then spend the afternoon touring. We will stop at The National World War II
Memorial, honoring the 16 million who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during WWII. We
also will stop at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. This privately funded memorial has drawn
millions of visitors over the years. Next stop is the Lincoln Memorial, overlooking the Reflecting
Pool. Inside, inscriptions from his Gettysburg Address and Second Inaugural Address flank the
19 foot marble statue. We will stop at the Korean War Veterans Memorial. We will visit the
Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial. This memorial is intended to be personally
transformative for visitors, building a sense of commitment to the promise of positive change
and active citizenship. Last stop is the Jefferson Memorial, a 19-foot statue of the third
president.
This evening, we will enjoy dinner overlooking the waters of the Potomac River.
After dinner we are off to the West Lawn of the US Capitol to see a performance of the United
States Army Band. Founded in 1922, the United States Army Band - known as
"Pershing's Own" - is the premier musical organization of the United States Army. Before
2002, the United States Army Band was the only Washington-based military band to have
participated in a theater of foreign combat operations. (There is no reserved seating available for this
concert. It is advisable to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on.) (D)

DAY 2: After breakfast, we will visit the United States Capitol, the most recognized symbol of
democratic government in the world. We will also visit the United States Library of Congress.
It is the largest national library in the world with more than 100 million items in three buildings.
Then it is time to join the folks at the National Mall for the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, an
international exposition of living cultural heritage. You will have free time on your own to
explore one of the Smithsonian Museums on the National Mall, stop by the National Archives,
visit the Newseum or enjoy a number of other attractions at the National Mall. (B)

DAY 3: This morning we will visit the Arlington National Cemetery. No land in America is
more sacred than this square mile. It is America’s shrine to valor and sacrifice.
